Hair Mineral Analysis

Did you know that your hair is where you body stores a number of minerals and heavy metals?! It makes sense that a very small sample of your hair can give us insight into your nutrient levels (including iron, magnesium and calcium) and toxic metals (including lead and mercury).

Hair can contain minerals and metals that have accumulated over long periods of time, from food, water, cook ware, personal hygiene products, chemicals, pollution and so many other environmental factors.

The analysis provides concentrations of minerals that have accumulated in the hair tissue over the hair growth period, so approximately one to three months.

We know that heavy metals can be stored in the body, which can contribute and exacerbate chronic disease, cardiovascular health, immune function, hormones and fertility, allergies, immunity, skin and muscle health.

Symptoms and common conditions:

There’s a number of unexplained symptoms and common conditions, that may benefit from hair mineral analysis, including:

  • Fatigue

  • Allergies

  • Immune dysfunction

  • Toxicity

  • Brain fog and poor concentration/recall

  • Skin conditions

  • Metabolic issues

  • Mental health disorders

  • Chronic diseases and inflammatory conditions

“Test, don’t guess”. A motto sung by a number of Naturopaths! Testing helps us understand and address underlying causes of common symptoms, and once we identify any deficiencies/imbalances, I can help you correct levels and imbalances, and maintain better health outcomes!

Details and ordering your test

The hair mineral analysis is priced at $150-$200, depending on the type of test you do and the lab. I work closely with two main labs - NutripPATH or Interclinical Labs. This price includes the full report (you can view a sample report here).

The details on how to collect the hair sample is included in the test. Essentially, all you need is a tiny amount of freshly cut hair (that hasn’t been coloured in at least 8 weeks), cut close to the scalp, which will reflect the body’s most recent metabolic activity. All that’s needed is about 0.25 grams. A tiny amount! You can watch a video of collecting the sample here.

Your hair mineral analysis test can be ordered directly through me! If you’re a new patient or existing patient, and you’d like to order your test and go through the results, you can email me.

It usually takes the lab up to 10 days to process the results and report, once they’ve received the sample. I will then go through the report in detail with you, and help you understand what mineral and heavy metal imbalances/deficiencies you have, and how to correct them! Please ensure you’ve booked in your report of findings consultation, two weeks after you’ve posted your hair mineral analysis test to the lab! Book your consultation here
