Healthy Gummies Recipes

Oh I’m a big fan of gummies… these apple cinnamon ones are as moorish as store-bought lollies, I kid you not! And the lime curd gummies, well it’s like a lime tart and a cheesecake had babies!

If you’re in need of improving energy, regulating mood and managing sugar cravings, there’s a good chance you need to eat more protein with your meals!

Gelatin is a bit protein hit! Gelatin is cooked collagen, and since collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body (think of collagen as the ‘glue’ that holds us together and is in muscles, joints, skin, etc.) it makes sense that incorporating collagen and/or gelatin into your life, supports hair, skin, nails, gut and muscles/joints, and can address inflammation.

One tablespoon of gelatin gives you 13 grams of protein! That’s about a fifth or sixth of your daily protein requirements right there!

Here’s two simple gummy recipes.

Apple + Cinnamon Gummies

  • 1 cup apple juice

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 4 tablespoons gelatin

  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder

Lime Curd Gummies

  • 8 tablespoons gelatin

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup coconut cream

  • 2 TBSP maple syrup

  • 1/2 cup lime juice (about 3 limes, juiced)

  • 3 egg yolks

  • 30 grams butter or ghee

    Method:

    1. Grease the moulds using olive oil. This is such an important step - don’t skip it!

    2. ‘Bloom' the gelatin, which means we need to hydrate it. Stir gelatin with cold water and leave it to sit for a few minutes. It will expand and become quite thick (this is good!)

    3. Whisk ingredients together then add to saucepan and put on low heat.

  • For the lime curd gummies - whisk the coconut cream, ghee/butter, egg yolks, lime juice and maple syrup then add it to a saucepan. Keep it on a low heat until it’s nearly boiling then take it off the stove

  • For the apple and cinnamon gummies - whisk the apple juice and cinnamon together then add it to a saucepan. Keep it on a low heat until it’s nearly boiling then take it off the stove.

    4. Add in the bloomed gelatin mixture and whisk until it's combined

    5. Pour into any moulds (as you can see I love my heart-shaped moulds and gummy bear moulds) or into a glass dish for more of a jelly dessert!

    6. Leave it set in the fridge for an hour (if that!)

    7. You can then pop the gummies out of the moulds or slice up the jelly into bite size pieces. Store in an airtight container and it will last for up to 1 week
