Meet MMC... you inbuilt cleaning crew of the digestive system!
I want to formally introduce you to your very own inbuilt cleaning crew; it sweeps through the digestive system, propelling undigested food through the small intestine and clearing out excess bacteria. Pretty cool, right?!
If you experience any digestive issues like bloating, constipation, sluggish bowels or just feeling icky, then it’s important to know about this powerful cleaning crew, called the Migrating Motor Complex (MMC); housekeepers of the digestive system. Their job is to The MMC is there to propel undigested food and bacteria through the gut. Let’s face it, no one wants undigested food sitting & fermenting in your gut (👋 bloating and feeling icky).
The thing is, your MMC is only activated after 3 hours since last eating - this is a key reason why for most people, eating nourishing meals (rather than snacking or grazing), and trying to space out your meals throughout the day, may ease bloating, constipation and digestive issues, and support your whole digestion. Spacing out your meals may also improve insulin levels and promote healthy hormones!
You naturally activate your MMC when you haven’t eaten for 3 hours. Now, this doesn’t mean you will be hungry all day long. It does mean you want to consciously increase your nutrients at mealtime, so you’re satiated for 3-4 hours (and enable the MMC to do their thing!). Typically when you eat more protein and fat, you’ll feel satiated for a longer period of time, balance blood sugar levels and manage sugar/carb cravings.
