Sepia - A Fundamental Women's Remedy
The Sepia Woman…
Most women can relate to being a Sepia woman, or having a loved one in a Sepia place, at some point in life.
Here’s a visual of an exhausted Sepia woman - picture a mum to three children that are five years and under. She’s trying to work part-time, manage a household, cook nourishing meals (not to mention homemade sourdough!), attend regular dance/pilates classes so her prolapse doesn’t get worse, respond to every text message that comes through so she doesn’t seem rude, all whilst trying to be an attentive wife, fun friend, kind daughter … you get it! A Sepia woman can be managing ‘all the things’ and eventually she becomes worn out - completely exhausted. Disconnected. “Touched out”. Snappy and even sarcastic towards her partner/kids. She may crave chocolate and feels better for vigorous exercise. She’s got digestive upsets, usually in the form of bloating, sluggish bowels, and possibly nausea. Not to mention her skin flares up with childhood eczema or cold sores from time to time. These are some of the typical presentations and leading symptoms of a woman that needs Sepia.
Sepia is a remedy to rejuvenate the nervous system and balance hormones. It’s also highly indicated for painful/heavy periods, fertility issues, perimenopause and pregnancy/postpartum-related issues.
Sepia is a key uterine remedy used as part of my fertility program - this is because of its affinity for the reproductive system and it’s hormone supportive benefits.
Stagnation is a key theme, mentally and physically.
Slow digestion: sluggish digestion, bloating, constipation, nausea, motion sickness, fissures and/or hemorrhoids.
Skin stagnation: ringworm, eczema and herpes.
Mental depletion: The Sepia woman can feel depleted, indifferent towards loved ones, “touched out”, detached and/or highly irritable. She can become snappy at her children or partner. Because she feels overwhelmed and stagnant, she often feels better for vigorous exercise.
Sepia is included in my homeopathic first aid kit and fertility kit, as a key hormone supportive remedy.
Sepia is also used as a classical, constitutional prescription for women I work with 1:1, often they have chronic health issues or ongoing hormonal/skin/digestive stagnation.
I occasionally use Sepia for some children for skin issues and recurring bed wetting.
