Natural approach to vomiting, diarrhoea and gastro

It was only last week I was telling a friend that our family had never had gastro. Not once had we all been struck down with vomiting and/or gastro. Well the joke is one me. I’ve had to swallow that smugness.

Since Tuesday we’ve all tag teamed with an intense gastro bug, with symptoms from cramping, diarhhoea, vomiting and fatigue.

I thought I’d share with you three key things I’ve been doing to support ourselves.

A natural approach to vomiting and diarrhoea:

  1. Arsencium Album (30C)

The number one homeopathic remedy for traveller's diarrhoea, suspected food poisoning, gastro, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting.

  • This homeopathic remedy is included in my first aid kit because every family needs this on-hand, otherwise you can order it as a single remedy from Martine & Pleasance or Owen Pharmacy.

2. Peppermint essential oil & peppermint tea

Peppermint is soothing and relaxing to the digestive system

3. Saccharomyces cerevisiae (boulardii)

The number one gut-friendly yeast that acts as a probiotic, and is beneficial for diarrhoea, including traveller's diarrhoea, antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and gastro. Useful for suspected food poisoning. Usually 5-10 billion CFU a day is effective.

  • This yeast-probiotic supplement is available as an over-the-counter supplement. I prescribe practitioner-only SB ranges to my patients as it’s higher dosing and is often used alongside another probiotic for effectiveness.

As always, this is information only and is not medical advice, this is my own personal experiences. Speak to your health practitioner or provider for personalised recommendations.
